This was a serious Prog-Rock track - not for everyone, but I always felt that my voice had a "commanding" presence throughout all of the spectacle going on around it. I tried my best to place it in the same musical universe as something King Crimson might have come up with in 1974.
You know that feeling of re-working the same draft for what feels like the thousandth time? I had been stuck on one particular idea for several months and this was one of those "teachable moments" where I was able to see more clearly how ideas and recordings, which didn't seem to be going anywhere, could be reframed in a more fundamental way, potentially changing their entire style and sound. The song has a giddy/goofy quality to it, which of course mirrored my own state of mind.
This was arguably my first, fully developed "musical journey"; full of twists and turns. My Peter Gabriel-esque singing-style was definitely on full display here, and I hadn't achieved the level of control over it that I had when making "Dreamer", but I was definitely not afraid to hurl the listener into several different peaks and valleys.
A deeply sentimental, musical theatre-esque track. This was supposed to conclude a musical "epic" called "In The Streets", which was never made, but I settled for what seemed to be the second-best thing: finishing the beginning and ending.
